Brief job description: A highly motivated scientist with crystallographic experience is required to join the Synchrotron Crystallography team of the EMBL-Grenoble Outstation. This team works in close collaboration with the Diffraction Instrumentation Team on the development of advanced instrumentation for MX-beamlines, such as the microdiffractometer (MD2), mini-kappa goniometer head (MK3) and sample changer (SC3) currently installed at many synchrotrons. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and user support of the highly successful microfocus beamline ID23-2 at the ESRF that has now been in user operation since late 2005. Other activities, to be carried out in collaboration with the ESRF and external users, include the development of advanced strategies and methodologies for X-ray data collection from microcrystals that is now needed for challenging structural biology projects at 3rd generation synchrotrons.
The successful candidate should have a PhD degree and at least two years post-doctoral experience in crystallography. An interest in and a knowledge of instrumentation and software for crystallography beamlines at a synchrotron is desirable. Successful candidates will work closely with external visitors and should have an excellent command of English. Basic knowledge of French would be advantageous.
