Job description: A highly motivated scientist is required to join Andrew McCarthy's Synchrotron Crystallography team in the EMBL Grenoble Outstation. This team works in close collaboration with the ESRF on advanced data collection methods and instrumentation with the aim of impacting on challenging structural biological problems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the routine operations, maintenance and user support of the recently built and highly successful microfocus beamline ID23-2 at the ESRF. Other activities, to be carried out together with the EMBL Diffraction Instrumentation team, will include development and commissioning of instruments and scientific software associated with the sample environment on synchrotron MX beamlines, in particular the development of methodologies for collecting X-ray data from microcrystals.

Qualifications and experience: The successful candidate should have a PhD degree and at least two years post-doctoral experience in protein crystallography. An interest in and knowledge of instrumentation and software for macromolecular crystallography beamlines at a synchrotron is highly desirable, and scientific computing skills are required. Successful candidate will work closely with external visitors and should have an excellent command of English. Basic knowledge of French would be advantageous.

Contract: An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.
