Information to be sent to participants of BYOD exams beforehand

Important information for exam participants should be sent by the instructors at the latest one week before the exam. The template below can be used for this purpose. Prior to that:

  • all participants must be added as members to the ILIAS exam
  • in the ILIAS exam settings, the checkboxes for "online" and "always visible" must be selected
    • this will display the exam on the participants' dashboards, and as well confirm them the registration for the exam
    • however, the exam will only be accessible for the participants at the start of the exam.

Dear Students,

The final exam for your lecture / seminar "XXXXX" will be an online-exam, on XX-XX-202X, from XX:XX am/pm to XX:XX am/pm, to be written in room XXXX. You have registered for the exam and you hereby receive the information on how the exam will be conducted and how you can access it. Please read this information carefully and have at hand during the exam.

The exam will be conducted as a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) exam, using your own laptops, and has to be taken on the ILIAS exam platform:

You can log in to the exam platform, using your regular university account. Please test in advance if the login process works correctly - the support team may assist you in case of any occuring problems. If you encounter issues logging in, please contact support@uni-konstanz.de.

If you have successfully registered for the exam, it will already be displayed on your dashboard; however, you will only have access to it at the start of the exam.

If the exam is not visible to you, you might not be registered for it. You can check your registration status in ZEuS. If you wish to take the exam, but you cannot register for it in ZEuS, please contact: XXXXX.

Technical requirements:

  • Operating system: Laptop with Windows or macOS. Machines using Linux OS are not compatible, as the mandatory "Safe Exam Browser" (see below) does not run in a Linux environment.
  • Hardware: Screen size: 13" or larger. Fully charged battery with a minimum runtime of 2 hours.
  • Software: Having "Safe Exam Browser" (SEB) installed following these instructions: https://wiki.uni-konstanz.de/e-learning/index.php/Installation_des_Safe_Exam_Browser
  • Access: Having configuration file downloaded, provided by your instructor before the exam

If you do not have a suitable laptop of your own, you can use one of the Chromebooks provided in the exam room. Please notify your need at least three working days before the exam by emailing xxxxx@uni-konstanz.de.

Exam procedure:

  • starting from XX:XX am/pm: Sign in to the exam-ILIAS using the Safe Exam Browser on your own laptop (or the provided Chromebook) and access the exam.
  • Starting from XX:XX am/pm: Answering the exam questions of the online test
  • Latest by XX:XX am/pm: Finish the online test by clicking on "End test", sign out of the exam-ILIAS platform and exit the SEB.
